Today’s theater news round-up is about Paul Rudd…and some other not as important theater people.

  • My imaginary boyfriend Paul Rudd (Broadway’s Last Night at Ballyhoo and Three Days of Rain) will be returning to the Great White Way this September in Grace, a new play described by producers as an “this enthralling Broadway premiere that asks: are we in control of our lives or is there something else at work?” It will also star Oscar-nominee Michael Shannon and Emmy-winner Ed Asner. But the important thing is Paul Rudd, whom I fell in love with when he played my favorite love object in world literature Mr. Knightley  (only translated from Jane Austen to Beverly Hills) in Clueless. Let’s relive that moment…

  • Two-time Tony winner and scene stealer extraordinaire Katie Finneran (Promises, Promises) has been cast as Miss Hannigan in the upcoming Broadway revival of Annie. Finneran once guested on an episode of Frasier which was an NBC sitcom on Thursday nights; Paul Rudd just finished a guest run on NBC’s brilliant Thursday night sitcom Parks and Recreation. I can’t find a clip online so let’s watch the preview for his upcoming film This is 40, paying particular attention to 1:32…

  • Look at the wonderful thing that the success of Once has done! Another intimately scaled musical is headed for Broadway. Producers announced that the current La Jolla hit Hands on a Hard Body will be making the transfer in the coming season. I can’t think why the title makes me think of Paul Rudd. Or why it makes me want to spend Seven Minutes in Heaven with him…

I feel better now.
