THEATER BUFF: Curtis Schroeger of the MUNY in St. Louis & “Mary Poppins”

July 18th, 2012 Comments off
Every third Wednesday, a fabulous actor/singer/dancer will fill out my nosey little questionnaire and offer a glimpse of what they look like from a bit closer than the mezzanine. For July, we’re heading off the Great White Way and taking a look at the boys of summer — summer theater, of course. We’ll have another one tomorrow, but first up, a talented actor who makes a real splash…

Name: Curtis Schroeger

Hometown: Overland Park, KS

Recent & Upcoming Shows/Roles: Ensemble of Thoroughly Modern Millie and Aladdin at the Muny in St. Louis.  Joining the Broadway National Tour of Mary Poppins as a Swing.

The best part of doing summer theater is: The camaraderie of putting together a show in seven days, then being shot out of the cannon opening night and having the show come together is really exciting.

The most challenging job in show business I ever had was: Probably the one I am about to do.  I am having to swing ten tracks in Mary Poppins.  I am really excited for the challenge and  pushing myself to see the bigger picture of the production instead of just the one or two tracks I am typically responsible for.

If I wasn’t an actor, I would be: Bored

Places, Intermission or Curtain Call? Places. I love the anticipation of starting a show; there is always something electric about walking to the stage and hearing the overture.

When I’m working out of town, my suitcase always has: My rollerblades and a wine key. Before my freshman year of college my godparents gave me a jar of coins that my cousin Tom had saved until he died in a car accident; they said to get something I really needed for college.  18 year old me decided rollerblades were the most sensible purchase to get around campus and I have been using them ever since to get a lay of the land when I travel.  I’ve never been hurt on them so I thank Tom for that.  The wine key is just for good luck.
