THEATER BUFF: Ian Paget of “Soul Doctor”
Every third Wednesday of the month, a fabulous actor/singer/dancer fills out contributor Tom Mizer’s nosey little questionnaire and offers a glimpse of what he looks like from a bit closer than the mezzanine. For August, we’re catching up with a buff who is not just bi — he’s tri-lingual…
Name: Ian Joseph Paget
Hometown: Born and raised in London til I was 12. Miami boy after that!
Current Show/Role: I play “Holy Beggar” and understudy Eli Chaim in Soul Doctor @ Circle in the Square Theatre.
The best part of the show I’m working on now is: My awesome cast! They are a wonderful group of people and I’m so glad I get to be a clown with them backstage every night!
The most challenging job in show business I ever had was: Being Swing/Dance Captain on Leap of Faith. It was stressful and fun all at the same time and because of that I grew a lot as a performer/person.
If I wasn’t an actor, I would be: A stylist! SO many of my friends have told me I need to start a portfolio of the friends I’ve dressed and start a business. I could be to style what Mark Fisher Fitness is to gym!
Places, Intermission or Curtain Call? Curtain Call kinda guy… there’s nothing like seeing the audience jump up from their seats! That roar of excitement is the best way to end your day at work.
The best post-show cocktail in New York City is at: I personally love a glass of wine with my cheese spread at home BUT when I go out I’d say Glasshouse Tavern is great for a post-show moment with great food and ambiance.
After you’ve hit all the traditional sites of New York City, you should totally go to: The Frying Pan which is on the water (23st and west side highway). Great drinks/food and the view is nailing it.
If I could live anywhere else in the world it would be: Paris. I want a loft with floor to ceiling windows and for it to be on top of a patisserie. That way every morning I could go down and get my pain au chocolat avec mon Cafe.
Pick a “pup” for the Dog Days of Summer: Sylvia, Snoopy, or Sandy? Sandy. I just picture a fire hydrant open and Sandy getting wet playing with the kids in the neighborhood!
My workout “secret” is: I wouldn’t call it a “secret” but after I hit the weights I do a half hour of swimming, usually ending with butterfly (works every muscle).
When I’m looking for a date, nothing attracts me more than: Face and smile!
Board shorts, speedo or skinny dip? Board shorts. I like the chance to wear my Quicksilver shorts as much as I can. The only time I’m in a speedo is at the pool gym for some laps 🙂
People would be surprised to learn that I: Speak French and Spanish fluently. I went to a French Lycee my whole life and learned Spanish at home!
When I was 10, I wanted to be just like: Dracula. I’ve always wanted to be a vampire!
The one thing I want to do this summer but haven’t done yet is: Go to an amusement park and beach! Either Dorney Park or Six Flags and Fire Island.
