THEATER BUFF: Buff Up 2014!

January 15th, 2014

Every third Wednesday of the month, a fabulous actor/singer/dancer fills out contributor Tom Mizer’s nosey little questionnaire and offers a glimpse of what he looks like from a bit closer than the mezzanine. For January, we’re taking a look back at some of our favorite buffs and finding out what they’re up to now (you can click on their names to see their original profile)…

When last we spoke with Jim, he was up to no good in the musical Murder Ballad, but now it seems that he is “In the Navy” — or at least singing it — as the newest member of the Village People. Yep, Jim is the new “cowboy” in the classic disco-dancing, YMCA-loving sensation, taking over the role in September 2013 from Jeff Olson, who’d been a Macho Man since 1980.

Back releasing new tracks (“Let’s Go Back to the Dance Floor!”) and touring the world, the Village People will be swinging through Atlantic City February 15.  So head down to Resorts Casino , put on your dancing shoes and check out how well Jim fills out his ten gallon hat for yourself. Judging by his official pics in character (see left), we think he’s going to fit right in.

Everyone’s favorite ginger returns for more Hustling, as the acclaimed web series returns with more new episodes at the end of the month. And if Andrew isn’t enough reason to watch, it would seem that his storyline may just “intersect” with an appearance by Mr. Newman above. (Two buffs for the price of one!)

But that’s not all! You can also catch Andrew live and in person this March in Nothing But Trash. Featuring a tale of love, lust and juvie hall, the new play will run at New York’s Theater for The New City.

Matthew has stepped behind the scenes as the Associate Choreographer of the much-buzzed Queen of the Night, the latest sexy, genre-blurring show from Sleep No More producer Randy Weiner. An original riff on The Magic Flute, the immersive theatrical experience is running now through February 23 (thanks to a recent extension) at the Diamond Horseshoe, the newly renovated space within the Paramount Hotel.

Although you won’t see Matthew himself on stage, something tells me there will plenty to feast your eyes on. Check out the New York Times piece describing the creation of the show and you’ll definitely be hooked.
