THEATER BUFF: Mark MacKillop of “Broadway Bares”
Every third Wednesday of the month, a fabulous actor/singer/dancer fills out contributor Tom Mizer’s nosey little questionnaire and offers a glimpse of what he looks like from a bit closer than the mezzanine. For June, we’ve got a special treat! To celebrate one of Broadway’s biggest charitable events of the year, we’ve got one of the men who will be raising big bucks—and temperatures—at Broadway Bares: Rock Hard! this Sunday, June 22.
Name: Mark MacKillop
Hometown: Vancouver, BC
The best part of doing Broadway Bares is: Getting to have an amazing time performingwith my friends while raising money for an amazing cause. [Please make a donation now to get Mark to his goal while supporting all the amazing work Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS does to provide essential services for people with AIDS and other critical illnesses across the United States.]
In order to prepare to go Bare, I’ve been: Going to the gym more, and blasting fundraising pleas on my Facebook, Instagram and Twitter…haha!
The most challenging job in show business I ever had was: Probably being on tour for a whole year. Staying true to the show and delivering 100 percent every night is constant work. People always say how can you do one show somany times and not get bored, the answer is easy, it’s constant work to stay present and focused on the show, small things change every night so it’s exciting to be a part of that.
If I wasn’t a performer, I would be: A lawyer. When I was younger I always argued my case and tried to get out of any trouble I had gotten in.
The best pre-show dinner and post-shot cocktail in town are at: Dinner at Vice Versa on 51st between 8th and 9th avenues. Cocktails at The Duplex, where you get to see some incredibly talented New Yorkers belting out songs until 4 in the morning .
After you’ve hit all the traditional sights of New York City, you should totally go to: You have to go have a slice of artichoke pizza at Artichoke.
If I could live anywhere else in the world it would be: Paris and London because they are so close to each other, just a quick train or plane to each other, yet they are big cities with very different vibes than New York.
If I could go anywhere on a summer vacation it would be: Mykonos. All my friends go every year and I’ve been wanting to go forever.
My workout “secret” is: Eating right. I don’t eat out that often; I like to know what I’m eating. Gym bodies are made in the kitchen.
When I’m looking for a date, nothing attracts me more than: A great smile.
My favorite website to visit that you may not have heard of is: Soundboardt.com ….. Just go.
Boxer, Brief or Commando? Briefs.
People would be surprised to learn that I: Used to do construction. I worked for a contractor one summer in between seasons while I was dancing with the Atlanta Ballet.
Ten years from now I’d like to be: Curled up on the sofa looking at my collection of Tonys, Grammys,Emmys and Oscars ; )
When I was 10, I wanted to be just like: Vera-Ellen in White Christmas.
Pick a “June”: Gypsy‘s Baby June, country royalty June Carter Cash or classic TV Mom June Cleaver? Baby June because she just wants to entertain you! Haha! No, because in the end she leaves to pursue her happiness, she has an overbearing stage mom but she leaves it all behind to do her own thing and be happy.
