Netflix’s hotly anticipated movie adaptation of Jason Robert Brown’s Broadway musical 13 has released a new trailer and first single, ahead of the film’s streaming release on August 12.
Directed by Tamra Davis and based on the hugely popular musical 13 which debuted on Broadway in 2008, the movie is billed as a coming-of-age journey through the unforgettable ups and downs of preteen life.
The film follows Evan Goldman (Eli Golden) who moves from NYC to small-town Indiana after his parents’ divorce. As his thirteenth birthday nears, he must master the complex social circles of his new school and win friends by turning his Bar Mitzvah into the coolest party ever. Ghostlight Records and Atlantic Records have also confirmed the release of an official soundtrack, available in digital and streaming platforms on Friday, August 12. The film adaptation of 13: the Musical will feature at three new songs written by Jason Robert Brown, also included on the album. The new songs are entitled “I’ve Been Waiting,” “The Bloodmaster,” and “It Would Be Funny.” A special bonus track features a cover version of “Tell Her” by singer-songwriter Alec Benjamin. The album is produced by Harvey Mason Jr., with orchestrations by Mark Graham.
Previewing the new soundtrack, a single was also released — the story’s opening number, “13.” Listen below:
13 The Musical stars Eli Golden as Evan Goldman, Debra Messing as his mother Jessica, Peter Hermann as his father, Rhea Perlman as his grandmother, Josh Peck as a rabbi, Gabriella Uhl as Patrice, Jonathan Lengel as Archie, Frankie McNellis as Lucy, JD McCrary as Brett, and Lindsey Blackwell as Kendra. The cast also features Ramon Reed, Nolen Dubuc, Luke Islam, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Kayleigh Cerezo, Willow Moss, Liam Wignall, and Khiyla Aynne.
13: The Musical drops on Netflix on August 12.
