We’ve all been there: Work ran late, curtain is at 7 o’clock, and you’ve escaped from the office with no time to spare – and an empty stomach. Thankfully, Midtown is home to a number of eateries that can satisfy your needs. Here are just five quick-bite, Theater District spots that get you in and out fast, and into your seat on time.
592 9th Avenue (between 42nd & 43rd Streets)
For quick and tasty Thai food, look no further than At Nine Restaurant and Bar. This spot has a cozy, unpretentious atmosphere, reasonable prices and swift service. Pad Thai, crispy spring or shrimp rolls, spicy pad kee mao and grilled chicken sate are among the menu highlights. Pick-up and delivery also available.
229 West 44th Street (between 7th & 8th Avenues)
If a sandwich, wrap or panini is what you’re craving, Star Lite Deli is your spot. Located right in the heart of Times Square on 44th Street, this family-run establishment somehow manages to feel warm and friendly despite its location right in the center of the madness. Their grilled chicken pesto sandwich is particularly good, as is smoked turkey with gouda and honey mustard. And breakfast is available all day!
328 West 45th Street (between 8th & 9th Avenues)
Okay, hear me out on this one. Beer Culture might not be the first place you’d think of for a quick snack pre-show. For a fast pint, obviously they’ve got you covered — but food? Really?
In fact, this cozy spot has some of the highest quality pub food options in midtown. Their burger is scrumptious, the pretzel warms the soul, and their grilled cheese sandwich…forget it. It’s just incredible. Plus, you can also down a beer. Always a good plan before theater! Hopefully you’re on an aisle.
1440 Broadway (between 6th and 7th Avenues)
A lively, casual spin-off of a popular food truck, Mexicue offers delicious taco share plates, burritos, bowls and–of course–many varieties of nachos. Add on a round of tequila or a pitcher of margaritas, should you feel so inclined.
364 West 46th Street (between 8th and 9th Avenues)
More than just your standard pub fare, this creative spot has a communal atmosphere and an unusually varied assortment of snack options. That includes meat or cheese boards, burrata, deviled eggs and shrimp ceviche. If you feel so inclined, you can also leave a donation for a performing artist of limited means to enjoy a free meal at this friendly establishment, on you, as part of their wonderful pay-it-forward program: Hold Fast to the Arts.
