Looking for a weekend road trip with a bit of culture thrown in for good measure? Head to Forestburgh Playhouse in — you guessed it — Forestburgh, New York, for a one-night-only outdoor concert on Friday, June 18, from our favorite scantily-clothed duo, The Skivvies.
Just over 100 miles north of New York City, the Forestburgh Playhouse celebrates 75 years this season, a legacy that dates back to John Grahame and Alexander Maissel and the Provincetown Repertory Company. The historic barn-turned-theatre has seen a lot in its day, and what better to celebrate the return of live performance than singer-actor-musicians The Skivvies (Lauren Molina and Nick Cearley)?
The pair strips down arrangements of eclectic covers and eccentric originals, playing cello, ukulele, glockenspiel and melodica. And then they literally strip down to their underwear to perform. The New York Times calls them “a hot musical comedy duo specializing in unexpected arrangements, incongruous mashups, and of course, highly toned displays of skin.” With residencies at places like Joe’s Pub and 54 Below in NYC to touring the country and television appearances, The Skivvies, always performing with fabulous Broadway special guests, “have managed to carve out a niche that we never knew needed to exist,” according to Out Magazine.
Grammy-winning guest star Tamika Lawrence joins the pair, proving that a threesome is also in The Skivvies’ repertoire!
The rest of the summer is filled with even more entertainment at Forestburgh Playhouse, including:
Kyle Taylor Parker, June 19
Kate Baldwin, June 25
Nicholas Rodriguez, July 2
Kathryn Allison: The Sophisticated Ladies of Broadway and R&B, July 3
