Barry Manilow lets his music do the talking. Take a look around his website, www.BarryManilow.com, and you’ll be hard pressed to find a bio about the prolific songwriter/performer who has 10 major awards to his name including a Tony, a Grammy and two Emmy awards. Not to mention any reference to his early days working with Bette Midler at the Continental Baths in New York City.
“Manilow on Broadway” is Barry Manilow’s return to the Great White Way where he last appeared in 1977. Opening night was postponed due to bronchitis, but the veteran performer has bounced back for a limited engagement through March 2.

It’s impossible to ignore the singer’s efforts to retain his youthful looks. His appearance is jarringly artificial, especially when contrasted with the video close-ups of his puppyish face from his heyday. But his endearing personality and amusingly self-deprecating banter (“I was the Justin Bieber of the ‘70s!”) provided a much-needed human element.
