Music Theatre International, one of the major theater licensing organizations, has unveiled an addictive interactive mapping tool on their website called the MTI Musical Finder. Just enter a city—say, my home town of Fairfax, Virginia—and it shows you which of their musicals are playing nearby—the stage version of Barry Manilow’s Copacabana opens this week at Osbourne Park High School in Manassas. Teenagers in a tale of love and nightclub-fueled passion; I’m so there.
Not only is this useful to find theater in your area, it’s an amazing (and deliciously time wasting) window into the demographics of our Guys and Dolls loving nation. You can also search by show title and find out which high school drama teacher might be fired next for directing Rent. Feel free to send comments with your favorite finds.
