Labor Day seems like a logical time to look back at one of our favorite musicals of the 1950s, The Pajama Game. Written by George Abbott, Richard Bissell, Richard Adler and Jerry Ross, the story is based on the novel 7 1/2 Cents, which follows the trials and tribulations of a group of pajama factory workers as they struggle to unionize.
The original production won the Tony award for Best Musical in 1954, and the 2006 revival (starring Kelli O’Hara and Harry Connick, Jr.) won Outstanding Revival of a Musical. Kathleen Marshall also won a Tony Award for best choreography for her new take on the show, which the legendary Bob Fosse originally choreographed.
