Every third Wednesday of the month, a fabulous actor/singer/dancer fills out contributor Tom Mizer’s nosey little questionnaire and offers a glimpse of what he looks like from a bit closer than the mezzanine. For September, we’ve got a guy who is truly fabulous…
Name: Adam Kemmerer
Hometown: Catasauqua, Pennsylvania
Current Show/Role: Rock Henderson in Fabulous! The Queen of New Musical Comedies
The best part of the show I’m working on now is: Listening to the waves of laughter my castmates get every night.
The most challenging job in show business I ever had was: I was in a production of Forever Plaid in New Hampshire. I think we had to learn the music and choreography in 3 days. I remember a lot of cursing and gentle sobbing. But it turned out to be one of my favorite productions of all time.
If I wasn’t a performer, I would be: I’ve always wanted to be a police officer. Someone that can help his community. So I think a NYPD detective would have been fun. I’d settle for playing one on TV though.
Places, Intermission or Curtain Call? I like intermission best. You get to take stock of how your show is going and make adjustments for the audience you have that day and you also have one more act to get it right!
The best post-show cocktail in New York City is at: BettiBar on 46th St. Happy Hour until 10 o’clock!
After you’ve hit all the traditional sites of New York City, you should totally go to: Get on the Staten Island Ferry and walk to a SI Yankees Game. Cheap beer and hot dogs, fireworks at the end of most games, and you get to take the free but quite romantic Ferry ride with the city and the Statue of Liberty as a backdrop. I think I’m a cheap date.
If I could live anywhere else in the world it would be: On a beach in the Caribbean, probably Roatan, Hondurus, or somewhere like it, with warm weather all the time and a coral reef.
The fall theater season is beginning to rev up; other than your own show, what are you most excited about: I have friends in Finding Neverland and The Last Ship, they both look great! I’m also happy to see Disgraced get a larger home. I saw it at LCT3 and was blown away by the story.
My workout “secret” is: Balance! I run 3 times a week, take Bikram Yoga once or twice a week, and lift at the gym 2 or 3 times a week. I find that keeps me in the best shape because you get cardiovascular, strength, and flexibility. If I had to pick only one, it would be Bikram though. It fixes what’s broken from the show every week and gives me confidence that I can make it through a hard audition.
When I’m looking for a date, nothing attracts me more than: My wife putting on black tights, a cute dress, and a pair of heels. If my wife puts on a pair of heels she could take me to watch a cat show and I’d be happy. (Also dancing in heels every night has also given me a much deeper appreciation for how hard it is to wear them!)
My favorite website to visit that you may not have heard of is: Ross Mill Farm (a live cam of an actual Pig Rescue Farm!) They have a Facebook page, too!
Board shorts, speedo or skinny dip? Nakers!
People would be surprised to learn that I: Am a certified dog trainer.
When I was 10, I wanted to be just like: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Ten years from now I’d like to be: A Dad and in a classic Broadway show like Phantom or Les Misérables.
Back to school time! What was your favorite (and least favorite) subject in school? I loved Social Studies and learning about the history and cultures of places outside of the U.S. I have no talent for math so Calculus was not fun!
