Every third Wednesday of the month, a fabulous actor/singer/dancer fills out contributor Tom Mizer’s nosey little questionnaire and offers a glimpse of what he looks like from a bit closer than the mezzanine. For July, we’re crowning a very special man of the month…
Name: Nick Cearley
Hometown: Fairfield, Ohio (Between Dayton and Cincinnati)
Current Show/Role: Pageant as Miss Great Plains and 1/2 of “The Skivvies”
The best part of the show I’m in now is: Getting to take my make up off.
The most challenging job in show business I ever had was: Being a swing!
If I wasn’t a performer, I would be: I don’t know how to do anything else.
The best pre-show dinner and post-show cocktail in town are at: I love Lillie’s supreme nachos. And actually, I am a beer snob so I love Beer Culture right next to the theatre on 45th so I enjoy going there after the show.
After you’ve hit all the traditional sights of New York City, you should totally go to: Sleepy Hollow (Tarrytown) in the fall. The town turns into a Halloween love letter and the Pumpkin Blaze is something I look forward to all year long.
If I could live anywhere else in the world it would be: Seattle.
My workout “secret” is: Reminding myself of the feeling you get when your workout is complete. That is addicting. No one actually WANTS to workout so it is always the “making sure you get there” part that is the biggest challenge.
When I’m looking for a date, nothing attracts me more than: My husband.
My favorite website to visit that you may not have heard of is: www.theskivviesnyc.com
Given your work with The Skivvies, what do you look for in briefs? SUPPORT. If I am going to be literally bouncing around with a ukulele and other instruments for 90 minutes, I need to be 100% sure everything stays put.
Which other band do you wish would perform in their underwear? So many artists actually do! It’s the oldest trick in the book. Adam Levine, Capital Cities, Adam Levine, Foster the People, and Adam Levine are ones that come to mind though.
People would be surprised to learn that I: Haven’t eaten meat in 19 years.
Ten years from now I’d like to be: Alive.
When I was 10, I wanted to be just like: Rick Moranis.
Celebrate July with some patriotic theater: 1776, Ragtime or The Miss Firecracker Contest? RAGTIME. Original cast. No one slays the bridge of a song like Marin Mazzie singing “Back to Before.”
Be sure to cast your vote for Nick in Pageant, running now at The Davenport Theatre (345 W. 45th Street). And be sure to catch an upcoming performance by “The Skivvies” and their always very special (and scantily clad) guests.
