We have a lot to be thankful for this November as Broadway and beyond welcomes revivals galore, hoping to capitalize on familiar titles and cult favorites. We’ll see who has staying power but our eyes are on the following three:
Lypsinka! The Trilogy
She’s back. After a 9-year absence, a triple dose of the legendary Lypsinka, John Epperson’s iconic creation, will be doled out this fall when the ‘Goddess of Showbiz’ deigns to grace New York City with her sweeping presence in Lypsinka! The Trilogy. To celebrate a staggering three decades of glamorous theatrics, three different shows—revivals of the acclaimed Lypsinka! The Boxed Set and The Passion of the Crawford, as well as the New York premiere of John Epperson: Show Trash—will run in rotating repertory for a strictly limited 8-week engagement from November 5, 2014 through January 3, 2015.

Side Show
It lasted but a blink of an eye when it premiered on Broadway in 1997 starring blonde belters Emily Skinner and Alice Ripley. But it’s subject matter has engaged musical theater aficionados ever since. Now, completely reimagined by the creative team, along with Bill Condon (Chicago, Dreamgirls, Twilight: Breaking Dawn Parts 1 and 2, Gods and Monsters), making his theatrical directorial debut, Side Show is coming back to New York on the heels of its lauded run at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Inspired by the remarkable true story of the Hilton twins, Daisy and Violet, who were legends in their time and the highest paid performers on the vaudeville circuit, Side Show is the heartwarming search for first love and acceptance amidst the spectacle of fame and scrutiny under the spotlight. Side Show includes new music by multiple Grammy Award® winner, Academy Award®, Golden Globe®, and Tony Award® nominee Henry Krieger (Dreamgirls), with book and lyrics by Tony Award® nominee Bill Russell, and additional book material by Bill Condon. Also keep an eye out for special effects make-up by Dave and Lou Elsey.

A Delicate Balance
There is, perhaps, no other play that has commanded such theatrical royalty on the Broadway stage than Edward Albee’s stinging family drama, which one the Pulitzer Prize in 1967. That original production starred Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy. An acclaimed revival in 1996 starred George Grizzard and Rosemary Harris (along with Elaine Stritch). And now the gloves are off as John Lithgow and Glenn Close take on the legendary roles of Tobias and Agnes in this twisted marital tale. Expect fireworks with a supporting cast that includes Martha Plimpton, Bob Balaban, Lindsay Duncan and Clare Higgins. With direction by Pam MacKinnon, who won a Tony Award for best direction of a play for her revival of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, it promises to be one of the most coveted tickets of the season.
