Album artwork for Tom Kitt’s ‘Reflect.’ (Masterworks Broadway)
Tom Kitt, the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer of Next to Normal, is set to release his debut studio album on Friday, August 13. Kitt, who also won two Tony Awards for Next to Normal, named the album “Reflect” as the songs are based on essays, lyrics, poems, and statements from the album’s singers.
A potpourri of Broadway stars will be featured on the album, including Danny Burstein, Jenn Colella, Brian d’Arcy James, Mandy Gonzalez, Michael McElroy, Javier Muňoz, Lauren Patten, and Adrienne Warren. As a preview, the album’s first single, “Breathe” (featuring Elizabeth Stanley), is now available for streaming.
Kitt shares his Pulitzer Prize with Brian Yorkey, who penned the lyrics for Next to Normal. Since that breakout musical, Kitt has scored three other Tony nominations: one for his original score for If/Then, one for orchestrations for SpongeBob SquarePants, and one for orchestrations for Jagged Little Pill. Kitt’s other musicals include High Fidelity, Bring It On, and Flying Over Sunset, set to premiere at the Vivian Beaumont Theater this November.
